suzuki swift 2012 photo

The Swift PHEV operates like many other plug-in-hybrid vehicles. The car is propelled by a 55-kW (74 horsepower) electric motor powered by a 2.66-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, supplied by Sanyo Electric. The car can run just under 10 miles on electricity alone, but once the batteries are depleted, a small 660-cc gasoline engine comes online to function as a generator. According to Suzuki, this system is lighter and less expensive than installing a large battery pack, and allows the little Swift to achieve 88 mpg on the Japanese fuel economy testing cycle.

Later this year, Suzuki will send roughly 60 of the Swift PHEVs to its Japanese dealerships for real-world testing. Suzuki has announced its plans to ultimately sell a plug-in-hybrid vehicle, but has not given any specifics on the hybrid Swift’s future — at this point, it will be strictly a limited-production test vehicle. Osamu Suzuki, the chairman of the company, says his company plans on ultimately introducing electric vehicles in Japan, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the firm focuses on launching PHEVs in the same market.

American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) unveiled a turbo concept version of its Kizashi sport sedan at the company’s 2011 New York Auto Show (NYIAS) press conference this evening. The turbocharged Kizashi Apex Concept showcases the link between Suzuki’s automotive division and its championship-winning motorcycles.

The Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept features a Garrett turbocharger, an air-to-liquid intercooler, electronic boost control, and a specific engine control unit calibration to provide outstanding drivability. The system takes the Kizashi’s peak output into the 275-300 horsepower range, with a maximum boost of 8.5 psi. This powertrain is matched exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.

Specific system components are as follows:

Garrett/Honeywell 2871 R ball bearing turbocharger
Internally wastegated 0.86 A/R turbine housing
Oil and water cooled bearing system
Turbine housing cast from high-nickel “Ni-Resist” material for extreme applications

Turbine wheel cast from lightweight iconel materials for extreme applications
Key to the Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept’s performance is its air-to-liquid intercooler, purposed for more effective charge air cooling in a smaller package. The unit’s relatively small heat exchanger and circulation

pump are designed to be minimally intrusive to vehicle cooling. The intercooler’s primary advantage comes from the reduction in the overall length of ducting, which results in faster throttle response and a lower turbo lag, giving peak boost faster than most air-to-air intercooler systems. For impressive engine breathing, the Apex Concept utilizes a free flowing true dual exhaust system.

The Suzuki Kizashi Apex Concept’s cabin receives an eye-catching treatment in black leather, with laser blue Alcantara accents on the sport seats and steering wheel

2012 Suzuki Hayabusa

Today, Suzuki Motorcycle India launched two superbikes in new Delhi, India. The Suzuki Hayabusa is an iconic superbike, made famous in India by the improbable stunts in the movie Dhoom. The movie was a horror, the stunts were worse, but India came to know about that Hayabusa as the ultimate motorcycle to own.

The Suzuki Hayabusa (earlier called GSXR1300 in some markets) has a 1340 cc engine churning out 194 bhp that can propel it to 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds! Note that that’s miles, not kilometers. That would be 96.5 kilometers per hour in 2.6 seconds! Top speed is an electronically restricted 299 kmph.

The Suzuki Intruder M1800R is a 1783cc V-twin cruiser, DOHC, 54 degree, liquid-cooled, fuel injected V-twin engine designed for strong throttle response and quick acceleration. Maximum power produced is 125bhp @6,200 rpm and maximum torque: 160Nm @3,200 rpm. The M1800R intruder features a final shaft drive instead of a chain.

Introduced in 1999, the Suzuki Hayabusa is the fastest, most powerful production sportbike motorcycle available today. Named after a swift flying falcon, the original Hayabusa was capable of reaching a speed of almost 200 mph. It was designed to compete directly against the now defunct Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12 and now ZX-14 motorcycles. mor ditails
